refreshing the great room

nestingcarissa fox5 Comments

It never fails... the time change of Spring rolls in and I feel the need to shift & sift.
Pulling everything out... letting the room breathe...
and really I think just letting me see the space with a fresh set of eyes.
You know what I mean right?
Do you do this too?

I tried a couple different layouts in here...
moving and shifting sofa & chairs all around...
but as usual... it went back to the way I originally had it.
Seems... with everything considered... it's the best for us.
Which again is perfectly fine... it's that fresh feeling I get from just playing & seeing.
I have to say... it makes me oh so happy!
My hubby... and the girls... think I'm flat out nuts... but by now they're used to it.

I did sift out the sofa table... I can't explain exactly what it is about it...
but in this room it's just not a great fit.
I for sure need something behind the sofa...
and found almost the perfect table... love it... BUT darn it... it's just too deep.
Needs to be quite narrow........ and long... to pair well with the sofa.
Will have to see how that pans out.
I did LOVE having lamps on the table right behind the sofa... really missed that this morning...
with the "helloooo what feels like waking in the middle of the night" time adjustment.
Maybe even floor lamps on either side of a narrow console?
Might be a fun option.

The area still needs layering... to be cozied up for sure... but I'm loving this refresh time.

Some of the sifted STILL waiting patiently (yep still there) to be redirected or given their papers.

The photo on the left is just out of site... it's the seating in front of the fireplace...
but there was something about the color in this photo that gave me pause...
and strangely...  inspiration.
Funny how that works.
Just stuck the bowl there as a handy spot... and the mix of texture and pattern was like POW.
A neat surprise... and a welcome surprise I'll take.
Love it when that happens.

Oh... and I'm also trying out the clock... that's been in the art room... up on the mantel.
Why not.
I figure it's a good time to try.  :)
You never know.... shift some things around... maybe sift out a few.
That piece might be just the thing you need to freshen up another room in your home.
Try it!

a match meant to be

nestingcarissa fox13 Comments

So back almost four years ago...
when we had just moved back to Texas... after living in Wyoming...
we were all living in an apartment (for a LONG 18 months) while our house was being built...
all of our belongings were in storage...
I found this bone inlayed dresser for our youngest's bedroom.
We loved it and knew it'd be perfect for her room once we moved in... and it was.
She had twin beds at the time... had them since she was young young...
anywho... she had been wanting a big bed for quite some time.
Once we made the switch to a queen... last year...
we were left with that cool dresser.
We'd been using it in between the twins
and now had no match for the other side of her big bed.
I'm a bit obsessed when it comes to symmetry for bedside.
I know... NUTS.
Anyway there was no space in her room for the dresser...
especially once she had her new bedside tables and her big bed.

My husband REALLY loved that dresser...
which says A LOT because he is the most easy going... "whatever you think/want" kind of guy.
I'm lucky.
Of course... I loved it too... what's not to love...
but when I tell you we could not find one spot in our home for that dresser...
really... I mean NOT ONE SPOT.
No closet... wall... niche... nadda.
I had searched high and low for another one too... never having any luck.
Again... that symmetry thing... with another... bedside would golden.
Literally just this week I was thinking "gosh am I going to have to store it"... "sell it"?
If we don't have a spot for it... we just don't have a spot.

WHEN LOW & BEHOLD... not believing my eyes...
I get an email...
from the very shop I found the dresser... they had just received a new shipment from India...
and THERE IT WAS... ANOTHER one!
what?!
I had already checked with them... many times.

This is my LONG way of telling you... we now have new bedside tables in OUR bedroom.
oh happy day!
I called the shop immediatly... double checked measurements... the inlay pattern...
it was a MATCH.
and they had only received the one.
MEANT TO BE.
I tell you... right?!... is that not meant to be?!

Just picked up the new one today... and we couldn't be more tickled.
Such a treat!

One for my side... and one for the hubs.
A pair made for each other and meant to be together.
Silly dressers... yes...but all this...
as we celebrate our seventeenth wedding anniversary!

Loving them in our room already!

So now I'm wanting a change to those lamps.
Promise that didn't just pop in my head today... been wanting a tweak to those for some time.
Love the shape of those thrifted finds... from forever ago... think they're still fun.
Maybe a fresh new high gloss finish though?
What color?
Or maybe just new shades?
What do you think... what would you do?
oh yes... do share... do tell.
thanks!

our master bath

Untitled

it's where we brush our teeth...
and wash our faces...
where he shaves...
while i try to tame my hair.
where our little one loves to take a bath.

Untitled Untitled

i'll say... i knOw... it's a simple blank canvas of a space right now.
would like to add some color... and touches here & there...
but it's one of those things i've been "getting to".
oh my word... my "getting to" list in this house is mighty.

it's not super noticeable here...
but the frames around the mirrors are actually a lighter shade.
have been pondering a color change to those.... easy enough.
i just keep going back & forth on that.
hmmm

Untitled

home...
the making of it...
is such a process isn't it?!

sometimes the process & ideas flow like a river...
it feels clear... the direction you want to meander...
and other times... it seems your feet are stuck in the mud.

i'm learning... that bOth are good... at least i think so.

Untitled Untitled

i'm not a bath tub person... but felt it was important for resale.
ha!
so used to moving... it's part of me.

lil bit likes to bubble up & watch a show in there every so often.
precious little... she's like a tiny peanut in there.

you would have thought it was the world's most important decision...
when it came time to pick the plumbing fixtures.
just as my sister told me... i called her a bazillion times you know....
she was right...
in the end either way would have been perfectly great.

to me they're a bit "modern"... and a bit "classic".
i like that.
i'm really happy with them though... would choose them again no question.

one thing i was certain i wanted... i had them build in a little foot ledge.
see it down there in the shower?
so when i shave... i've got a foot prop.
that thing may be my favorite!

Untitled

subway tile... i clearly love it.
the grout color on the walls... the choosing of... of my word... that was a doozy too.
in this bath i finally leaped with subtle... by going low contrast.
for some reason i felt my mind would crave the simplicity... the quiet in here.

of course i see spaces with high contrasting grout... and i freak...
i love it so much.
:)

the sconces... when i saw them... i knew.
i love their shape against the rectangle tile.

Untitled Untitled

the man cave.
bahahahaha

the tile made it's way in here too...
in a high... almost five feet... wainscoting... around all walls.
can't believe i took a pic of the toilet.

UntitledUntitled Untitled

there's a little nook on the opposite side of the shower...
right now... it's temporarily housing a small cabinet & a favorite print.
i'd like a tall narrow cabinet in there... to fit the area better...
and i'm thinking that might be a fun spot to add a pop of color too.

Untitled Untitled

it was funny... before it was built...
i imagined myself being at that sink (above)... the one on the right.
once we were actually standing in it... no way...
it felt right for me to be at the other.
hubby thought so too... we fell into place.
i guess it's like when you go to a hotel and one side of the bed feels right.

i do want to add a hanging pendant above the tub.
just need to find one.

Untitled

i look forward to seeing how this space evolves.
my feet might feel stuck right now... but when i do get them out...
i love that part!
after all one of my favorite things is tweaking home.
