mustard stencil wall

So the last wall I posted about was an all willy-nilly free for all...
this wall was a bit more thought out... a wee bit more structured.
We actually did it last summer........ umm... how is that?
It feels like it was just last month.
Seriously.
It's almost summer again!
And to think we're STILL pulling the space together!

We were wanting pattern for the wall... knowing it needed something.
Considered stripes... but with stripes on her rug... nope...
so when we saw their cute stencil shop... here...... well... we jumped.

After pondering the color we wanted to use...
as this daughter of mine has a crazy love of switching out her bed pillows ALL THE TIME.
She'll grab them from another bed... from the linen closet... a sofa... chair.
She likes to refresh things often.
I have NO idea WHERE she gets it?!
Anywho...
mustard seemed a fun fit.
Why not.
Quite a high contrast... pretty bold actually... with her black bed... but we thought it might be fun.
Oh... it's bold alright.

We're still wanting to add in more touches of white throughout... she likes white a lot.
Plus I think it'll help neutralize the color & contrast some too.
That and art for the wall.
Art needed for sure!
Love the background... now just need to add some fun art on top.

I'm was trying to remember... but I do think this was my first go at using a wall stencil.
My personal experience was a combination of
"oh my gosh I'm totally screwing this up... this is hard"
to
"I'm reaaaally loving this"!
ha!

The stencil itself was awesome!
Large (loved that) and good quality... I just need more practice.

The thing I find crazzzzzy good... I'm nutty when it comes to clean lines.
So this was a challenge... and that's putting it VERY lightly.
In the end...
It is sooooo not perfect.
The mustard bled though here and there... giving way to soft imperfect little plus symbols.
And really... you know OVERALL... I think it still looks good!

This was such a cool project in hanging on... keeping on... and waiting to see.
It took us about half a day to do this 12' x 10' wall.
One stencil...
small paint tray...
dense foam roller...
painters tape...
spray adhesive (which i'm not too sure if I'd use again)
and one quart of paint.
Very simple supplies... for big return I say.
And it was a fun try something new afternoon adventure.

Have you tried stenciling?
What'd you think?
Would you go for it again?

paint marker wall

I've been asked.... over at instagram... about this wall so I thought I'd do a quick post.

I had been wanting to do SOMETHING on this wall for some time...
so one free day... when a wild hair hit me... I just went for it.

They had quite a few colors... of markers... to choose from at Michaels...
and though I was ready to go nuts on the wall...
I was a little timid on this part and went with the neutral gray.

After measuring out and spacing the lines...
I grabbed a pencil and a piece of wood
(to help me keep the lines SOMEWHAT straight)
and just started... jumped in.
Drawing on all the lines first... then began drawing on leaves here and there.
Stepping back every so often... and seeing where more might be needed.
No rhyme or reason really... just what looked pleasing to the eye... seemed balanced.
After a while of drawing the leaves I realized a template sure would help.
Um... yeah... ya think!
We always have poster boards around for school projects... so...
grabbed one... drew out a leaf... cut it out... and started using it as a guide for the pencil.
Much better... easier... and certainly faster.

After drawing it all out with pencil (to get the overall layout and placement)
I then went over it all with the paint marker.
The neat thing... if you slip or mess up... have a wet rag handy...
the fresh paint wipes right off and you can just do over.  Loved that!

The result is a very organic... SO not perfect... subtle pattern for the wall.

Being a recovery perfectionist... ha... that makes me giggle...
this could not have been a more ideal exercise.
A fun kind of excersice too!  :)
Drawing on a wall... come on!
Therapeutic... and wildly cool... I highly recommend it.
And why not!

What I like about it...
On a DIY scale... it's WAY easy... I draw stick people y'all... so if i can do it.
Very little expense.
No commitment... it's just paint... so you can roll right over it anytime.
It adds a bit of texture to the space.
Can do the whole thing... from going to buy the markers to all finished... in one afternoon.
It was fun!  I must have said out loud more than ten times "I love this."

Had such a ball... in fact...
I wouldn't be surprised if I painted right over it and drew something all over again!
yep!

I have to say... THANK YOU...
so much...
for stopping by... being here.
So happy and blessed you did!
